Remote Buddy 2.7 adds support for the Satechi R2 Remote, allowing usage of the remote with more apps - and opening up far-reaching configuration possibilities.

Support for Satechi R2 Remote

Extensive app support

Using the Satechi R2 Remote alone, users are confined to a fixed set of key presses and mouse events the remote's hardware can send. That limits which apps the remote can be used with - and which actions can be triggered within apps.

In contrast, using the Satechi R2 Remote with Remote Buddy gives users instant access to its on-screen menu, tailored support for 100+ Mac apps and the ability to easily assign different actions to the remote's buttons - on a per-app basis.

Want to black out the screen during a PowerPoint presentation? Simply go to Mapping > PowerPoint in Remote Buddy's Preferences and assign the action to the button you want to trigger it with.

Support for both modes, the "air mouse" - and hardware limits

Using a slider on its side, Satechi R2 Remote owners can switch between Presentation and Multimedia mode. Both of which Remote Buddy 2.7 supports - including the "air mouse".

Due to limitations of the Satechi R2 Remote's hardware, however, not all buttons are available for configuration at all times. For example the button activating the "air mouse" is hard-wired in hardware to start and stop the "air mouse" mode when in Presentation mode. Triggering an action in Remote Buddy with that button therefore is only possible when the remote is in Multimedia mode.

For more details on the limitations imposed by the hardware, please see our page dedicated to this remote. There, you can also find Remote Buddy configuration tips specifically for the Satechi R2 Remote.

Optimizations for Apple Remote

Even 20 years after its debut, the IR-based Apple Remote is still relevant today - either through direct usage - or indirectly through universal remotes mimicking its codes.

Having written, rewritten and optimized various drivers for it since 2006, I didn't expect to again find an opportunity to reduce latency further at this point in time.

But that's what happened. It may only be a reduction of a mere 0.02 seconds - and only for the Play/Pause and Select buttons on the Aluminium Apple Remote. But it is a further improvement! 😅
