new 3g iphone itunes 7.7 and quicktime seems to break RB

This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
*** NEW EDITED NOTE this has been solved, I'm leaving it here as a diary of events and what I went through. There's still issues with the iphone 3g 2.0, but not apparently in relation to Remote Buddy.

***
Here's the setups I have.
1. A ibook g4 with updated quicktime and itunes 7.7.
2. A home mac mini with the same.
3. An itouch, with the older software not 2.0.
4. A new iphone 3g with 2.0 software on it.

I had to load the new version of itunes and quicktime to sync the iphone 3g to my g4 laptop. I don't have a license or trial version/operable of RB on the laptop so I cannot check connectivity without buying a copy of RB for the laptop.

I had previously been able to run against the trial software of RB on the laptop for development of the kiosk mac mini for my mother. I had RB working with the ipod touch. I didn't have the older iphone so I don't know what that's about. Here's some problems first with Remote Buddy and then with "itunes" for those who want to know.

*** Remote Buddy doesn't seem to work at all now.
First, Remote buddy just doesn't work with the new version of itunes and quicktime on my mother's mac mini. Neither the itouch with it's software which has not been upgraded to 2.0 or the new iphone 3g can control the mac mini with RB running on it. They both get, "Safari can't open the page, because it can't find the server" messages.

*** Itunes transferring of movies.
I have ripped movies from dvd's which were created with a burner from laserdisks that I own. These dvd movies are in different MP4 format resolutions. Handbrake will render with many settings. The itouch before 2.0 software will sync any quicktime movie at practically any resolution burned from handbrake. The movies show up and a movie tab shows up with all the nice little quicktime movies available.

*** The itouch 3g doesn't see any movies.
The 3g can see an eyetv recording of a tv show segment I made and imported into the TV. That's it, no quicktime video from handbrake is even visable with the 3g at all. I can see the movies in itunes under movies, but the newer itunes and 3g don't even allow the ripped movies to be seen or transferred into playlists that can be viewed from the iphone 3g. Even if you think you can add a movie to a playlist you cannot send it to the iphone 3g.

Apple also has a free remote in the apple store that controls itunes. It will allow you to play any movie that's imported into itunes as a remote controller. It has an advantage in live slider updates of volume as you drag the slider. Something RB cannot do as it's relying on Ajax screen click events, not sliding the slider with your finger on the itouch/iphone.

***CONCLUSIONS
iphone 3g is much less useful as an ipod to play your own material. Apple apparently has built a wall keeping you from importing your own movies, even if you shot them yourselves, burned the dvd and then converted them to handbrake. Since you didn't buy them from itunes, Apple has stopped you from being able to use them on the new iphone 3g. This makes the 3g an appliance kind of like a cable tv box, and reduces it from a better "handheld computer" capability for end users.

Since I've lost RB usage with the new itunes upgrade/or/quicktime, I've effectively destroyed my ability to use RB as a kiosk by getting an iphone and trying to setup itunes for that. Now my ipod touch and iphone are unable to control RB. Looks like I may have to go back to and earlier installed version of itunes and quicktime to get back RB on the mac mini.
