This posting is older than 6 months and can contain outdated information.
Apple followed up on the bug report. :-)

And now I need your help: 
Please update to iTunes 7.7 and check whether adding ringtones to your 
library still triggers the iTunes bug.

Any feedback would be mostly appreciated.
