Hi there,

the Frontrow installer still tells me, that my Mac is not supported, although Remotebuddy is runnning and the driver is loaded.

What else can I do?

Thanks

Thanks for asking.

It appears that Apple did intentionally add a script to the Installer
package which prevents the installation of Front Row on computers
without a built-in IR receiver. It's not Remote Buddy's goal or
feature to circumvent this.

You may find tutorials and patches for installing Front Row on the
web, but I wouldn't use these. They are unsupported by both Apple and
Remote Buddy, usually involve patching system files and are also
legally questionable. If you have a Leopard capable system, the best
and cleanest way to get Front Row installed on your computer is to buy
and install Leopard. Leopard will install FR on all systems -
regardless of whether they are equipped with an Apple IR Receiver.

Best regards,

Hi Felix,

thanks for your answer.

The main reason why I initially wanted to use Remotebuddy was the Ajax Remote feature.

The system is an old headless PowerBook Ti 800mhz. I have to admit that it is a bit outdated, but plays SD-videos quite well and without stuttering with FrontRow. At least it does, if it does nothing else, even with Leopard installed.

I used this configuration for quite some time with a VNC-Remote for my iPhone, until I had to update the iPhones firmware what made the VNC-Remote-app stop working.

Now, the combination Leopard+FrontRow+AjaxRemote is slightly too much for the small CPU, and load has spikes. It reaches 100% around 1 time in two seconds what makes the video stuttering frequently.

That is the reason why I downgraded to Tiger, hoping FR+RB would play a bit more nicely together.

Some time ago when I came to the decision to use the VNC-Remote instead of RB (I am quite sure about the following), I got FR on Tiger working with RB. (Rumors on several blogs still say this is possible).

Now, even if I use FR-enabler (with 10.4.9, as developement stopped at that point), or one of the other hacks, I cannot get it to work again.

It is quite frustrating but I wont give up on this ;)
